Basics

What is Klatchmaker?
Klatchmaker is an online tool for finding an offline circle of friends. Complete a series of quizzes and get matched in a small group of compatible people in or near your town. Meet online via Klatchmaker video chat, then schedule time to meet in person.

Who can use Klatchmaker?
You must be at least 18 years old to use Klatchmaker. Klatchmaker is currently only for users who are in the United States. You must reside in the U.S. to use it.

Do I have to download Klatchmaker?
No. Klatchmaker is not a mobile app. It’s a website that works on any mobile or desktop web browser. Simply sign up for an account and log in via any web browser.

How much does it cost?
It’s free to sign up, take the quizzes and start a match. With a free Klatchmaker account, you can join one group at a time and make up to three match attempts per month. Paid subscribers can join more groups and make more match attempts. Paid subscribers can also lock in their group preferences, including gender and age range. Learn more about subscriptions here.

Can I look for romance here?
Nope.
Klatchmaker is NOT a dating app, dating service, or hookup tool. By signing up, all members agree to use Klatchmaker for finding platonic friendships, not romantic partners.

Can I share my account with a friend, family member or significant other?
No. Joint accounts are currently not supported. Your account and profile must represent you and only you. All members join groups with the expectation that the other members with whom they’ve been matched are the sole participants in group chats, meetings and initial in-person meetings. This is in accordance with our Terms of Service.

Quizzes & Matching

Am I guaranteed a group?
Klatchmaker cannot guarantee it will find a group for you. Successful matches may depend on on your preferences, number of users in your location, and other factors.

Can I update my quiz responses or profile after initiating a match attempt?
You can update your quiz answers and profile at any time. Updates will affect your next match attempt. They will not apply to any match attempts that are in progress. If you have a match attempt in progress and want changes to your answers or profile to affect your match, you must cancel the current match attempt and re-start it. This will deduct from your monthly allotted match attempts.

Are my preferences guaranteed?
Paid subscribers can lock in preferences as deal breakers by editing their profiles (click name at top right-hand corner of screen and then “Edit”) and checking the appropriate boxes under “Preferences.” Klatchmaker takes preferences for users with free accounts into consideration, but cannot guarantee the final match will meet them.

Why is it taking so long for Klatchmaker to find a match for me?
Check the status of your match attempt via the "Get Matched" option in the main navigation menu. Klatchmaker tries to find a highly compatible group for you. Depending on your preferences, number of users in your location, and other factors, the amount of time it takes to find a match can vary from user to user. Some matches happen immediately, others can take a week or more. If you think the process is taking too long, consider canceling the match and trying again. Also consider adjusting your preferences or deal breakers. Note, you can start a match attempt only a limited number of times, based on your subscription plan. We recommend waiting at least a couple weeks before canceling a match.

Why haven’t I heard about my match? / Why am I not getting emails?
Once Klatchmaker finds a group for you, you will receive an email. After initiating a match attempt pay attention to your email inbox or the match attempt status on the Quiz and Matching page located via the “Get Matched” link in the main menu. You will also receive an alert on your home page when you log in.

Check your spam folder and allow emails from klatchmaker.com. Since new group members have one week to commit to a group, we recommend checking often (at least daily for the first week and then at least once a week) to see if you’ve been matched.

Also, check your user notification preference settings from your profile page to make sure you haven't unsubscribed from emails about your matches.

Do match attempts roll over?
Free members and Klatchmaker Plus members can start a match attempt up to 3 times each month. Gold members can start a match attempt up to 5 times each month. Match attempts do not roll over month-to-month. For Klatchmaker Plus and Klatchmaker Gold subscribers, the match attempt limit goes into effect once you have only one more group allowed under your subscription plan.

I can’t initiate any more matches
This likely means you have run out of match attempts for the month or you have joined the maximum number of groups allowed under your subscription plan. Match attempt limits reset at the start of the month.

Groups

How big are the groups?
Groups are 4 to 5 people.

How many groups can I join?
Users with free accounts can join 1 group at a time. Klatchmaker Plus subscribers can join up to 3 groups at a time. Gold subscribers can join 4 groups. If you leave a group or if a group is disbanded, you can join another to replace it, based on the limits of your current subscription.

Are the groups gender-restricted?
Klatchmaker takes your gender preferences into account, but for users with free memberships, preferences are not guaranteed. Klatchmaker Plus and Klatchmaker Gold members can lock in their gender preferences as deal breakers, ensuring their final groups match them.

For members who do not lock in their preferences as deal breakers, groups can be mixed-gendered (coed) or single-gendered. Klatchmaker ensures coed match results have at least two male and two female members (if you are matched in a coed group with only one male or one female member, consider leaving the group and notifying us with the group name and any suspicious behavior or members, as this could mean that one or more members updated their profiles after initiating a match).

My group does not match my preferences
Preferences for users with free memberships are taken into consideration, but are not guaranteed. To lock in preferences, paid subscribers must edit their profiles and check the appropriate boxes under “Preferences” to lock them in. If you locked in your preferences and the final group does not match them, it’s possible that one or more members updated their profiles since being matched. Feel free to leave groups you are not satisfied with and report any suspicious activity or users.

If I downgrade my subscription, will I lose my groups?
No. However, starting new matches and joining new groups will be subject to the restrictions of your new subscription. For example, if you joined 3 groups under a Klatchmaker Plus subscription and then downgrade to a free membership, you will remain a member of your 3 groups, but if you leave a group, are removed from a group, or if a group is disbanded, you will not be able to join another one unless you upgrade.

What’s the best way to break the ice and connect with my group?
Start by introducing yourself in the group message thread. Then, your group should try to schedule some time to meet via video in the video meeting space designated for your group. In that space, there are icebreaker questions for group members to get to know each other more. Once you’re comfortable with your group, you can schedule some in-person hangout time using the Klatchmaker scheduler on your group page. Your group page may also have promotions for local events and activities your group might be interested in.

I don’t like my group
New group members are given one week to get to know other members and commit to the group. If you feel your group is not a good fit, do not press the commit button on the group page (you can also change any previous response) and you will be automatically removed from the group once the one-week commitment period ends. If it’s past the commitment period and you decide your group is no longer a fit, you can still leave the group.

How close are group members geographically?
By default, Klatchmaker attempts to match members who live within 7-10 miles of one another.

My group name looks weird
Klatchmaker assigns a nickname to every group. This helps us and you keep track of groups. The name usually consists of a combination of words and numbers. Klatchmaker will often refer to your group by this name.

One or more of our group members is inactive
Group members can vote to kick out other members for inactivity, poor behavior, or even for not being a great fit. Votes are secret and anonymous and will result in a successful removal only if enough members vote. Note, kicking out members can result in the disbanding of the group as a whole if it does not meet minimum requirements (i.e. membership totals within a specific time frame).

Why was I removed from my group?
If you discover you are no longer a part of a group, there can be a number of explanations: Groups can be disbanded for a variety of reasons, including not having enough committed members or for being inactive. Also, group members have the option to anonymously vote to remove someone from the group. The process is totally private (no one ever knows who voted), and it only results in a removal if enough people have initiated a vote.

If you’ve been removed, please don’t take it personally. There are all kinds of reasons why this might happen, and it’s not necessarily a reflection on you.

Meetings

What are virtual meetings?
Virtual meetings are video conferences you can schedule with your group. When you enter the room you will use your device's camera and mic to communicate with other members. The room may include icebreaker Q&A games that you can play to keep the conversation going.

How long are virtual meetings?
Virtual meetings expire after one hour. Groups cannot propose or schedule more than one virtual meeting in a 24-hour period.

Can I bring personal friends or family to group meetings?
We strongly recommend you do not invite people you personally know and who are not known to the rest of the group to in-person or virtual group meetings—at least in the beginning. This can create an unfair or uncomfortable situation for other members. Klatchmaker groups are designed to be an ideal size in order for all group members to feel seen and heard. Help protect the integrity of the Klatchmaker group by limiting initial meetings to members. In other cases, give your group members a heads up that another person may be in attendance and consider asking this person to wait for you elsewhere or return later. Ultimately, use your best judgement to ensure your and your group members’ safety. If you are uncomfortable with someone inviting a surprise plus-one, remember, you can leave a group at any time, or anonymously vote to remove group members who have done this.

Is my personal information or Klatchmaker profile data shared with or sold to advertisers?
Klatchmaker does not share your personal information with advertisers. Klatchmaker never sells or passes along your name, email, or anything that directly identifies you to third-party advertisers. Also, Klatchmaker does not track your activity outside the website or across the internet.

Third-party tools or service providers that we use (such as advertising networks, analytics providers, or embedded content services) may use their own cookies, pixels, or similar technologies to collect data independently when you interact with our Website. These third parties are responsible for their own data collection and privacy practices, which are governed by their respective privacy policies.

You may voluntarily click on an ad or offer, and then choose to sign up, fill out a form, make a purchase, or share personal information with at your own discretion. We always recommend reviewing it before submitting any personal info.

Is Klatchmaker tracking my location?
Klatchmaker currently does not use GPS location tracking. Users share their location with Klatchmaker via their profile form.

How do I report concerning behavior?
If you notice bad behavior or rule breaking from other users, you can visit their profile and click “Report” to report the user. You can also propose a vote to kick members out of your group. This vote is anonymous, and other users will NOT be notified of your vote. You can also leave a group that you do not like.
